Getting Your Child Her First Vanity

If a child is lucky enough to get a vanity with a stool, she will probably be excited about doing the shopping. Mothers, and sometimes fathers, get the opportunity to bond with their little girls while they pick out this miniature furniture. It can be a good experience for all concerned.

Start the day by going to your child’s room together to get an idea of what she might like. Look for places in the room that would work for putting a vanity and stool. You will want a place that does not usually get cluttered and one that has good light.

While you are in the child’s room, take a good look at the decor. Try to decide which colors would look best with the things she already has in her room. Think about style – would a vanity and stool with lots of ruffles look good in this room? Maybe a more tailored set would suit the room better.

Choose a store to find your child’s first vanity and stool. You may be able to find one at a local furniture store or a department store. Since vanity sets are sometimes difficult to find, it may make sense to call around to see which stores carry them. If you find some to look at, take your little girl to the store to look around.

As you look at each vanity and  stool, remind your child of the decisions you made in her room. She might have a pale yellow room. Then, when she gets to the store, she might get excited about a vanity stool upholstered in hot pink. Unless she really likes that combination, you will find yourself redoing her room. It is better to steer her to a more suitable choice.

While your child looks at the appearance of each vanity, you can teach her about furniture construction. Point out the way each set is made. Try to help her choose a set that will last at least until she grows out of it.

If you find a vanity that your child falls in love with, you will buy it if it is at all in your budget. Find out if it comes assembled, and if delivery is included. If all goes well, you will soon have the vanity and stool in your child’s room.
